1) Telephone contact should be the first form of contact.
2) Have as many telephone calls as it takes for you to want to meet face to face.
3) You meet in a public place.
4) Be on time for meeting.
5) If you can - bring someone along with you. They don’t have to sit with you but be close by.
6) Meet for coffee or dessert in a casual setting, and agree to keep it short.
7) If for whatever the reason, when meeting for the first time you just don’t feel the click with that person – as you thought you would - It should be agreed before hand to allow either party to say “Thanks, but no thanks.” And both walk away, not taking anything personal.
8) If you both click then let them know you will call them within the next few days.
9) Call them. Don’t wait a week, because that is just rude. Be true to your words and mean what you say.
10) If you have second thoughts, and realize that it won’t work out for you – be honest.
11) Remember you both are meeting with the understanding that things may not feel right for either party, even after the initial ‘hello’s’ you can say at any time “Thanks, but no thanks.” And both parties can walk way, not taking anything personal.
12) If there is a second date – dinner would be great. Movies are great, but let’s face it – you will know the same about each other after the movie as you knew before the movie – since you cannot talk to each other.
13) Listen to each other – remember it takes two for a conversation.
14) Don’t agree just to agree – be yourself.
15) Really take the time to know each other.
